Do you think it is strange that Decatur, AL has a regulation Hockey Rink but not a youth football field? Us too. That is why we are asking the city to provide us a youth football facility with one or two fields. We have asked that the soccer field at Wilson Morgan be converted to a football field in the past. The LIDS Foundation was going to help us build the field if the city would just let us use the land. We were turned down. Decatur currently has the following competition quality public fields: Soccer - 15, Baseball - 16, Softball - 15, Basketball - 4 full courts, Tennis - 18 courts, Swimming - 3 pools, Figure Skating/Ice Hockey - 1. The biggest drawback presented by the city to building youth football facilities is that we do not generate the revenue that soccer, softball, etc generates. This is a circular argument in that they have built facilities for those sports and help them generate revenue. Youth football has not been given the same advantage. But yet, this is the primary reason for the city not providing facilities for the largest youth football association north of Birmingham. We are asking that the city support the most popular school sport at the youth level. Provide us with the same infrastructure that every other sport in town gets and let us hold end-of-year bowl games and generate revenue like the other sports. Say yes to Decatur being on par with Trinity, Danville, Priceville, Falkville, Hartselle and other surrounding communities by providing a home for youth football!
