Responsibility to Sarasota citizens, accountability, wisdom and common sense must be required of our elected local government. The community at large cannot continue to suffer for the aggressive drive to build and overdevelop!

Sarasota County has a Floodplain Management Plan that was developed in 2018. This also needs to be update and the floodplain issues and infrastructure water movement should be considered as we evaluate new developments. Many of the recent developments that have been approved talk about waterflow and water mitigation, but the methodology and the assumptions are not discussed in their filings or at the Commission hearings.

Our commissioners and planners need to start listening to the massive majority of citizens who adamantly advocate for a huge slow-down of housing, storage facilities, hotels, etc. This fast growth has damaged Sarasota irreparably, removed thousands of shade trees that helped cool Sarasota, and poured so much cement that the water no longer has anywhere to go. The insanely rapid development must stop!

I live in SRQ Springs and had no flooding this year, but am appalled at how the county ignores cleaning out the canals, etc.

We need to add to this petition a moratorium on rezones increasing density. I don't know one person who approves of the massive building that has taken place all over Sarasota County over the past two decades. I used to call this place of Florida a "jewel", now it looks and feels like Long Island. Traffic everywhere, trees disappearing. I miss the cows along US 41 and elsewhere.

Lost my car due this nonsense. The over development must be considered as a major contributor to this hapless event.

Water connects us all. We drink it. We fish in it. We swim in it. It moves freely from mountaintop to river to sea to sky to land. But we don't want to submerge our homes in it.

I know several families who were affected in Laurel Meadows, it looked like a war zone. This needs to be investigated and these families need help

This requires attention before allowing the expansion of development in vulnerable areas.

We require our County Commission to show true Leadership on the issue of water quality. Our entire county and indeed SW FL region depend on the water- without which, we really have nothing but a degraded has-been of a city and county. Our future is in the Commission's hands right now! Get. On. It!

Halt all further building until the requested plan is addressed before Sarasota becomes one of the over development and climate change statistics.
