Ew, gross and unedible. These are words uttered by many of students who participate in the National School Lunch Program as they force themselves to digest the low-quality and unappetizing food served to them in lunch lines. This problem has been worrying parents and health experts as they study this dilemma. Little do the public know that this problem is bigger than we think. "Pink Slime" defines the processed low-quality meat smothered in ammonia that is used as extenders in the food catered to these students. A student unknowingly intakes this unhealthy ingredient in their tacos, burgers, hotdogs and various meat products. This ingredient is currently rejected by major fast food chains but not by the Department of Agriculture. This is only one of the various flaws this program has. The longer this problem remains unaltered, more and more students' health is put at risk. The "Back to Scratch" movement is a non-government and independent program that prospects to revolutionize the food school lunch menu. Their goal is to convince schools to start preparing and cooking school food from scratch - meaning no processed produce. This movement has brought success to many schools in well-off communities but as much as this organization wants to help all the schools nationwide, it is incapacitated to do so because of the lack of support by our government. By signing this petition, you are supporting this movement as it makes its way to the congress and hopefully, to all the schools nationwide. Help nourish the the minds and health of America's future leaders. Sign today and make a change.
