This is a clear and flagrant denial of the rights in Article 6.

To deny a Deaf person access to his own legal case is to drive a coach and horses through the fundamental 'right to a fair trial.'

This is disgraceful. Shame on the court system

What has been done here is shameful, it shows just how far back the Irish justice system is, and how incapable the police are at dealing with those who have a disability. The reporting of this has been totaly off, how can a deaf man who can not speak swear at someone. The reporting of this story has been really one sided. Ireland should be ashamed, and those living in Dungloe should be even more ashamed of themselves. I grew up in that town with these people, and it makes me sick that they have not tried to help their neighbour in anyway, shame on you all in St Peters terrace.

It is time old oak wet damp door to be opened and the language that have been deny and destroy by whom the hearing people this is make the decision what is best for deaf since Alexander Bell 1880 we are abusing for the satisfied to make hearing people happy we become more silence for no reason it is time our sign language to be seen as a language of its own right

Fair trial for Paul Kelly who is Deaf and needs an interpreter

In this day and age, this is beyond shameful!

Disgraceful behaviour by someone who allegedly upholds the law

Regardless of what this defendant may or may not have done, like all citizens he should have complete access to what is going on in his trial or 'hearing' (ironic!) The Irish Government has this century paid millions of Euros to Deaf people who, as children, were abused physically, emotionally and sexually in schools in the twentieth century. That abuse was related to the same discriminatory mind-set displayed by this judge, the failure to recognise the right of D/deaf people, whether adults or children, to the same access as everybody else. Judge Paul Kelly should be at least disciplined and made to undertake corrective Deaf awareness training. This training should also be rolled out to any others in the Irish 'justice' system who do not understand this basic human right.

Whatever this man is said to have done, court proceedings should not take place if the person is not able to follow or understand what is happening. That's a fundamental principle and that's why I'm signing this petition.
