Being a very important course in the BIDS track, and ranked among the top 5 job trends for the future, we, as students, were committed and very serious to get the most out of the DCSN 216: Data mining for Business Intelligence course with Dr. Imad Bou Hamad.
This petition, is for the issue that we faced, concerning grades transparency, as we never had a chance to look at our Quiz 2 grades & papers, before the end of the semester or even before grades were posted on AUBsis. In addition, we did not have a chance to see our project performance , which counts for 35% of our final grades, especially that 15 % out of it is for individual subjective questions.
Many of us are applying for Masters programs and/or Jobs related to this field, and having these grades, lower than expected, is a huge disadvantage for us.

The course needed a lot of effort when it came to our projects. The book never really followed up with what we did in class so we were only learning from the class. However, in business intelligence class information is not enough. We need to read into things and because it's such a new field, it's hard to find information online. We all got grades lower than what was expected and we were never told where the grades disappeared. We worked so hard on our projects and it took time from our other courses because he never gave us our quiz 2 grades. With all the effort, the least we deserve is a bit of transparency.
The discrepancy in different group member project grades is unjustifiably discriminating
I was satisfied with my grade yet i would like to view my results and performance in quiz 2 and the project.
After getting an 86 on the midterm and working so hard on the team project and presentation, i expected a grade of minimum 83. Got a 78 instead which is very unfair .
Personally i worked extremely hard for this course to the extent where we had study group meetings and solving sessions outside of class time. We weren't really clear on the grading criteria since quiz 1 and quiz 2 were completely different (and we never got to see quiz 2 in order to know how to solve the project better) and for the project we did everything the Dr asked us to do and more because we didn't want to jeapordize our grades.
This is the second time that I sign a petition against this instructor. His grading for previous courses was unfair, as well as for this course. The learning methodology was not as expected, knowing that this course is being given for the third year in a row. In addition, I did not have access to my Quiz 2 grade during the semester , nor my project report comments and remarks. I am surprised that no action was taken regarding such unexplained and unprofessional grading method.

It is not fair at all for the students not to get a chance see their grades especially if the quiz was done from at least 3 weeks ago. Some students want to apply for a business analytics grad major and this grade will affect their rate of acceptance
