DCPS, please implement suggestions in this petition for student, staff, and family safety.

My family is among the significant number of DCPS families that had to spend this Christmas quarantined due to a positive case resulting from a school outbreak (Oyster-Adams, at the Adams campus). I am also a teacher at a DC charter school- a school that has taken the pandemic very seriously, and something that I do not see DCPS and Mayor Bowser doing. I am a deep believer in the value of in-person education, but ignoring clear signs of dangerous outbreaks is not the way to handle this situation- and many of us are now living with the consequences of DCPS sticking their head in the sand in a rapidly evolving pandemic. I am angry that DCPS put my family, and so many others, at risk with their reckless refusal to protect students, teachers, staff and families this school year.

We must do the right thing to ensure everyone is safe. My main concern is that students do not wear their masks correctly. We must provide an environment where everyone is held accountable to ensure safety. If the current guidelines are not providing safety to all, then we must implement standards that keep us All safe. I do prefer in person, but not at the expense of my or my student's expence.

Keep students and teachers safe; DCPS MUST pivot to virtual learning

Safety for al MUST be a priority

We need to be virtual for at MINIMUM the first 2 weeks of January and possibly the month of January until the numbers go back down. This is insane. Value the health and lives of students and teachers.

We need to do everything we can to keep our school communities safe during this surge. A few weeks of virtual is far more stable than allowing people to get sick right and left and ending up virtual anyways.

Keep Teachers and students safe! Protect them! Do the right thing!

I got COVID and being in quarantine alone for Christmas with no extra sick leave. Teachers deserve better!!

We deserve to be healthy and safe not sick!!!

DCPS has utterly failed to manage the spread of COVID in our schools and has allowed hundreds of students and staff to get sick and caused disruptions and distress to thousands bouncing back and forth to school and quarantine. Their data, when it is shared, is sloppy and unreliable. They're unresponsive to criticism and suggestions from people who are in schools and know better than central oddity staff untrained in pedagogy and still working safely from homes. They are full of empty promises.
