After taking the time to learn about Common Core, I believe it to be a danger to our children. Many parents do not know anything about Common Core and the dangers associated with its implementation. Catholic parents need to know and have a right to know what changes Common Core brings to their children's education. "...those in society who are in charge of schools must never forget that the parents have been appointed by God himself as the first and principal educators of their children and that their right is completely inalienable." -Familiaris Consortio #40

We are opposed to the adoption of Common Core Standards. We believe that the adaptation of the Graded Course of Study to these college and career-ready standards are in direct opposition to the mission of Catholic education. We, therefore ask the Archdicoese of Cincinnati to immediately1. halt the implementation of the standards and evaluate their merit over time2. hold town hall sessions to engage parents and educators to discuss the weaknesses of the standards and address parental concerns3. consider the removal of curriculum in "alignment" with the CCSS and re-evaluate the GCS

The Common Core Curriculum represents further proliferation of the gargantuan state and centralized control over every aspect of our lives. It will not turn out well for religious liberty, or for liberty generally. Please stop it! I am a member of Emmanuel Parish in Dayton.

Common Core is a bad idea! Why would the Archdiocese trust the federal government with anything...especially its curriculum?

A Catholic education used to be synonymous with high quality standards. It's already on the decline and common core will eliminate any excellence it has left.

Common Core is a threat to our private, Catholic educational system. A letter signed by 130 prominent Catholic scholars and professors expresses concern that the new science standards will "inculcate students into a material metaphsycis" and that the new history standards will promote "moral relativisim" and an "anti-religious bias." Please, halt Common Core now. We do not need it.

Core Curriculum is, at its 'core,' Communist. It is an easier and more efficient way to indoctrinate the children of our nation, first with socialist, and soon, communist ideologies than Hitler's Youth Movement, which he began in 1922 -- many years before the world paid attention his agenda. By 1934, Hitler had tens of thousands of 18 yr. old 'youths' loyally ready to carry out their 'orders.' Communism's only real impediment is Catholicism. At present, what may appear to be adjustments to test standards, early in the Core Curriculum game, is, as time will illustrate, a very focused effort to conform the minds and hearts of our children to Communism. The One True Church must stand against this insidious takeover of the educational system of our nation before it is too late.

Common Core will completely change the idea of education in our country from something noble and good to something used to control each and every citizen of our beloved country. It must be stopped.

We are homeschoolers (Catholic) who are concerned about the affect Common Core standards will have on the ACT/SAT. They have already made it clear that the tests will change according to these new standards. We have no desire and no intention to use any of the Common Core materials because we object to their content in many different areas. Our children do, however, take the ACT/SAT tests for college admission. There is a huge conflict of interest here. Please review the content of these new standards and you will see that they have no place in a solid, Catholic education or in Catholic schools. Thank you.

Rick Perales, a state representative from our diocese and he is against Common Core. This is NOT a "right" or "left" issue, it is a "freedom" issue. Folks from "liberal" Yellow Springs and "conservative" Beavercreek are on the same side of this issue. Do NOT tie the hands of our teachers and our curriculum to Common Core. We need the freedom to teach the best. Catholic Schools are the best and continue to be the best. Do NOT make them the same as the public schools. Please educate yourselves on this national debate. it is not a small matter. Read here for some info: http://www.nationalreview.com/article/347973/two-moms-vs-common-core.
