CCSS needs to be vetted by parents and teachers. If the standards are as wonderful as touted, the diocese should welcome this process. Catholic schools have always been considered to be superior to their public education counterparts. What is the need to align with standards accepted by most of the states? What is the benefit of a "cookie cutter" education? i have been strongly against these standards for a year, and have seen nothing that shows it to be necessary or good practice.

Please protect the Catholic education and halt the implementation of the standards. Our children deserve a Catholic education focused on the Truth of the Holy Catholic Church. +JMJ+

I received an excellent Catholic education through the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, and was fully prepared for college when I graduated from Chaminade Julienne in 2003. I want my children to receive the same exceptional education today. I believe that adopting the Common Core is moving education in the wrong direction.

My wife and I have already raised and educated four children. Our fifth one is in 4th grade and I do not want her to be the guinea pig in some grand experiment that from what we have seen will fail. 4th grade Common Core math is a joke! She is frustrated and so are we.

In my experience as an educator, I have noticed the pendulum swing from one idea to the next. Each group of “enlightened” individuals believes they have the key to improving the level of education in the United States. Unfortunately, with the Ohio State CCS and the emphasis on testing, testing, and more testing, our educational system seems to be slipping rather than improving. I have seen children tested over and over and over to the point where they no longer care about the results and just bubble in all there answers as quickly as they can so they can be done. Students have become bored with learning and lose interest in school. Catholic schools have always outperformed public schools for many reasons. One, I believe is that the environment for most students enrolled in Catholic schools is one where education and learning is important and revered. Many students in the public school system have parents that do not care if there student does well or not. There are also many teachers who are not interested in student learning. Another reason, I believe is that students in Catholic schools feel that they are part of a community where they are able to participate and learn for the sake of learning. CCS seek to make learning so regimented that the love of learning is squelched. Teachers know what students need to learn, let them learn when they are ready and teach with discussion, hands on experience and exploration. I have witnessed learning turn from discussion, exploration and discovery, to memorization, how to take a test and extreme anxiety of failing tests. Students no longer seen to know how to make inferences, and are unable to explain why an answer is correct or incorrect. They no longer seem to be able to think for themselves. With the CCS we will be asking our children to stop being interested in learning and knowledge and asking them to learn only what is necessary to pass a test. We will therefore be crushing their creativity and love for l
