Davis InterVarsity Statement of Solidarity
We as InterVarsity at UC Davis lament and grieve with the 5 black students who were pulled over on their way home from the BCM (Black Campus Ministries) Conference and with the black community on the UC Davis campus in response to the hate crime that occurred. We grieve the many more incidents of racial profiling, hate crimes, and micro aggressions that black and brown folks experience on a daily basis on our campus, our cities, and our country. Though our society at large tries to make invisible these assaults and even criminalize the victims, we as God’s kingdom family say... We see you. We believe you. We stand with you. We honor you.
We ask for forgiveness for the ways we have been complacent and in doing so, we have perpetuated your invisibility, increased your vulnerability, and missed opportunities of witness and worship to God.
We as members of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at UC Davis seek to live out the Gospel by recommitting to:
Remembering and Honoring... Your history. Your accomplishments. Your voice. Your requests.
Listening… To your stories. To your pain. To your needs.
Educating... To share the responsibility of educating and discipling those under our leadership in God’s heart for justice and reconciliation.
Pursuing Racial Justice Together... As one family, one body, we believe your pain is our pain, your joy is our joy. Your well being is tied to our well being. We can not experience God fully without you.
