On January 4th, 2016 residents of Davidson Creek received a letter from the Elk Island School Board and Stantec Engineering informing them of a proposed school development coming up in the area. This area was originally zoned for a school but about 6 years ago was rezoned and new homes were built. There is currently a park there which houses a large, new baseball diamond, skating rink, soccer field and playground. It is a treasured green space that many residents take advantage of on a daily basis. Even though this space has all these facilities it is not large enough for a K-6 school of 600 kids. We cannot see the quality of the space being the ideal location for a school.

There are many concerns from the residents as well - increased traffic, safety of our children, value of homes decreasing, lost of our current facilities (baseball diamond, skating ring, etc), living through construction for the next two+ years (which will also decrease the value of our homes), wasteful spending on ball diamond (this facility was built not even two years ago), and the fact that Davidson Creeks demographic does not include a high population of young children. The neighborhood is 10-15 years old and there are many families with older children.

The communities which would benefit from a Elementary School is Summerwood and Aspen Trails. These communities house many young families and are also in the development phase which have areas zoned off for schools.

Please sign our petition to hold off on development of this school and instead, have discussions with residents to find a better fit for the communities children.

Thank you

Residents of Davidson Creek

Updates

January 7, 2016

The feedback from local neighbors continues to provide valuable insight regarding the school development proposal. Research into current zoning requirements is ongoing, as we prepare to present our findings to the school board.

100% OPPOSED...Horrible planning on the County and EIPS part. This area of land is continually used by MANY soccer teams and baseball teams for practices and games. Not to mention this is an 20+ year ESTABLISHED community where most of the children of the age that would have attend this school, are all grown. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU!!!

Unacceptable. Why not build in one of the many vacant lots in Summerwood; where K-6 children actually live?

I am concerned that this space is not be large enough to accommodate a 600 person school and that traffic will become a major challenge on this street

The Elk Island School Board (EIPS) did a wholly inadequate job of consulting/engaging the residents of Davidson Creek and perhaps more importantly, conducting their due diligence on the safety of their site selection - shame on you EIPS!

Recent poll in Sherwood Park News says that 83% think that the school should not be built there. I am also against it as it will bring more disadvantages to our community.
