Give Dark Elegy a Permanent Home

These victims should not be forgotten.

Recently learned of this… it needs a permanent home

It is an exceptionally moving memorial.

Installing Dark Elegy on a site where more public can experience it provides more opportunity for healing and discourse around the pain of grief common to us all. On a personal level I found the grief I continue to experience following my daughters death profoundly isolating. I happened upon an image of Dark Elegy by chance and felt like I was looking into a mirror. Suse Lowenstein's work has the power to make one feel seen and understood. Finding out my daughter had died I was instantly felled, captive to the ground and lost in screams. The brutal physicality was beyond anything I could have dreamed of. My world was cleaved open and I fell through the abyss alone...then years later I saw this work. Not alone after all. Thank you Susie for sharing your pain and making such a meaningful piece of art. I truly hope it finds a new home. New Zealand.

Syracuse University would be the appropriate place for this work!

It is so powerful and a must see for all. As beautiful as it is, it needs to be wher more can see it and learn from it

This impactful work deserves to be seen, and the event to be remembered

I heard about this important piece in Atlas of The Heart by Brene Brown and feel it is such an important work to be shared with the world. I would love to have access to view it in person. Just reading about it brought me to tears.

What a pleasure & an honor it is to sign this petition. I saw Dark Elegy in August of 2018 and, like so many others, just knew it needed and deserved a much wider audience. As a resident of Central New York, I am beyond thrilled to think its new home may soon be in Syracuse, New York. Suse, you are an alchemist. We met briefly in your backyard the day I visited the sculpture garden and just that, our brief exchange, filled me with so much hope and the energy to keep moving forward in my own life and in my own pursuits. In my humble opinion, our culture can be a bit lacking when it comes to grieving rituals. What you have created is on par with what I saw when I first visited Pompei as a young child with my mom and dad in 1977, a place to pause, to grieve, to take stock and, most of all, to learn how to move forward. I commend you and I thank you and I thank my lucky stars, too, for making me pick up that free weekly newspaper in Montauk that morning where your sculpture garden was listed. Lucky, lucky me, lucky, lucky everyone who has ever had the good fortune to visit your garden and, soon, lucky, lucky all of us who will have even greater access to the piece right here in Syracuse, New York!

It belongs at Syracuse University!

We have visiting Dark Elegy multiple times and hope it finds the amazing permanent home it deserves

A home must be found. How can anyone object to this work of art displayed? Art’s primary purpose it that it evoke emotion and thought. The fact that this sculpture does just that is the very essence of why it should be displayed in perpetuity for future generations to experience.
