*Urgent Petition to County Officials: Restore Safety to North Bay Avenue*
To the County Officials of Ocean County, NJ,
We, the residents of the North Bay Avenue area, are extremely concerned about the recent redesign of the North Bay Avenue corridor. This street has long been a hub for pedestrians, dog walkers, children, and seniors who frequent the nearby parks. Unfortunately, the changes made to the road have created a hazardous environment for those who use it.
The removal of curb walking areas and addition of a turning lane has eliminated a safe space for pedestrians, forcing them to walk or bike in harm's way. The lack of sidewalks along most of North Bay Avenue makes this situation even more dire. We've already seen incidents where cyclists have been thrown off their bikes due to speeding cars.
As a community that values the well-being of its citizens, we urge you to reconsider this decision and restore the original design of North Bay Avenue. Our children, students, pedestrians, and bikers deserve to feel safe when using this road. Please take immediate action to reverse these changes and prioritize the safety of our community.

Seeing daily safety issues since addition of turning lane. Also, High School age drivers using No Bay as a speedway after School gets released daily. Please consider returning to pre-turning lane design.
As an avid cycist and long distance runner, North Bay used to be a reasonably safe route for training. There is now NO room for error; by cyclist, jogger, or motorist...and now driving means doing a slalom run to avoid man hole covers that can only adversely impact on wheel alignment. Bring back the former lane configuration and enforce a reduced speed limit.
I did not know North Bay was a county road, I thought it was "Toms River" municipal roadway; in any event, since the "turning ;lanes have been installed I find driving there too dangerous and nerve wracking; I now divert my driving to New Hampshire/Old Freehold Roads taking me further from my home adding adding more time to my travel.
These center turn lanes are so dangerous. The shoulder on Bay ave is now 2 feet wide, and no sidewalks, anyone walking is at risk. Also, every 50 feet your car hits a dip in the road from a storm drain Half of North Bay is woods, protected land, no one is making a left into the woods! They need to get rid of these "suicide lanes" altogether.
I live on North Bay Ave, heck it’s even dangerous to get the mail out of my mailbox. Please reconsider, this change is just aweful. I used to be able to jog up and down. No longer am I allowed unless I’m looking to die
I jog on the road in the early morning and it can be really challenging to stay safe without anywhere to move to as cars fly down the road.

We walk our dog daily and it is dangerous for us and our dog. In addition, just trying to put your trash cans out is sketchy and I’ve jumped out of the way of cars on numerous occasions.
