Dangerous Junction at The Bottom of Lakeside Rise and Blakey New Road.
Re: Dangerous Junction at The Bottom of Lakeside Rise and Blakey New Road.
I am writing to complain on the behalf of the residents at Lakeside Rise about a dangerous junction that has now caused several serious collisions. This issue has been reported by residents on several occasions where we are now growing frustrated that no further action has being taken; we cannot allow a death to happen before we see changes. You will find enclosed signatures from other residents who are in support of this complaint.
About the Junction:
The Junction is adjacent to Lakeside Rise and Blackley New Road and poses several problems while emerging:
- Blackley New Road despite the speed limit attracts a lot of speeding with no obvious or visible speed limit signs
- The junction is hidden, closed and concealed (especially with the consistent and constant parked cars and large vans)
- Although yellow lines were put in on 21/01/22 they do not make a difference to visibility even if a standard car is parked there (fig 1) - Extending the lines to the bus stop would prove more effective.
- Most of the time the whole area circled in yellow is occupied by large vans owned by ‘AJ Walker ltd’ These vans cause serious visibility issues, we have raised this with the owner who will not move them due to their location position not being illegal. (Fig 2)
Facts of the case & Time Line of Events:
21/01/2022 - Yellow lines added to Lakeside Rise and Blackley New Road
20/04/2023- Photo of visibility due to vans (fig 1)
27/06/2024- Big crash with two cars, one crashing into the tree (luckily no pedestrians was waiting to cross the junction as they often do) (fig 3)
16/07/2024 - Altercation with AJ Walker Ltd over visibility issues caused by business vans (fig 4)
23/07/24- Dashcam footage of a near crash (fig 5)
1/08/24 - Photo of visibility with normal cars (fig 1)
26/09/2024 - Major Crash 3 cars involved (fig 6)
We would like the council to please reconsider the length of the yellow lines or introduce other measures to reduce the risk of death and accident and for the issues at hand to be resolved.
These are not small crashes. These are major or car write off situations.
We want prevention as opposed to resolution to something bad that can and will inevitable; and in fact, already has happened. A life should not have to be ‘sacrificed’ for our concerns to be heard or listened to.
This is now coming across as council negligence and we as a community of the building complex are starting to consider other outlets to be seen or heard by - as we are still being ignored and disregarded despite our requests being life saving and not simply a mere nuisance.
We look forward to hearing what action you will be taking to resolve our concerns.
