The arts are an important aspect of a well-rounded curriculum. Not only are visual art and music included, but so is dance. In order to be college and career ready, a student not only has to excel academically, but demonstrate creativity, teamwork, and commitment. Dance teaches all of these valuable lessons and many more. When there is a staff member willing and eager to implement this valuable curriculum, why deny current and future Huntley students this valuable opportunity?? ley students the chance to receive credit for their hard work?t

Dance has an integral value in a high school curriculum. Not only does it satisfy the high school state standards established by the ISBE for physical education and dance, but it fulfills a pathway for children to succeed. As a physical educator I have taught dance within a p.e. curriculum. I have seen coeds excel in fitness within dance classes whereas the same students disliked team activities as soccer, basketball or wrestling. Let the students enjoy the choice of dance as part of the school day at Huntley. After all the fitness and wellness of our children are the main goals.

I have known Leslie for 20 years now. We took the same dance classes as little girls; and although I gave it up when I was still very young, she continued to thrive as a performer, choreographer, teacher, and all-around amazing person. I cannot think of a more qualified or passionate individual to teach this proposed dance curriculum, and Huntley High School would be lucky to have her at the helm. Leslie's current extra-curricular Orchesis program builds athleticism, rhythm, teamwork, commitment, and character for Huntley's students; and her guidance has inspired many of them to pursue dance and dance education in higher learning and beyond. And sadly, all of this has taken shape...in a hallway. I can only imagine what the students could accomplish were they provided the proper facilities, funding, syllabus structure, and support from the administration. The students need more options when it comes to physical education; and a new dance curriculum would most certainly fill that void!

Dance is a feel-good activity that one can participate in no matter what fitness level or age a person is. It is something a person can enjoy their entire lives.

I believe that dance education should be added to the curriculum of the Physical Education Department at Huntley High School...as the trend to move away from "traditional" physical education programs continues, I believe dance education would be a valuable asset to the school. This would be a welcomed elective to a curriculum for those students who may not be so athletically inclined, but choose to stay active through dance.
