I am Leslie Parrin and I currently teach at Huntley High School. For the past 6 years I have proposed a dance curriculum to my administration (as a component of our existing Physical Education or within the Fine Arts curriculum). I believe a dance curriculum at HHS will enhance the education of our students. Dance is important in developing physical fitness, coordination, critical thinking and problem solving skills, and an appreciation for the arts. It is a welcome alternative for students who do not participate in team sports. Not only would a dance education benefit our students, but it will also strengthen our district's curriculum while making our curriculum offerings comparable to other school districts similar in size and academic achievement. Future plans for our building renovations initially included a dance room to be used by physical education students as well as athletic and fine art extracurricular activities. At this time, renovation plans do not include a dance room nor do future curriculum plans include a dance course. I ask that you join me in signing this petition if you agree in a dance education and a supportive dance environment for our students.
