As a woman scientist of colour, I feel that we cannot let this pass without condemning it. It brings the whole tone of our society down with its nasty stereotyping.

I would be shocked, but it's the Daily Mail. Utterly unacceptable.

A trite comment made by the Daily Mail who should show evidence for their allegations or apologise.

The 'ladies' are much better scientists and academics than the 'gentleman' is a diarist, journalist, or writer. Sounds like 'Peiris envy' from someone who can't think. So diversity equals dumbing-down and wheeling out tinted women? I guess UCL appointed them for the same reason. Who's next, then, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England? Nice one, Ephraim Van Winkle. Go back to bed, man.
