Our kids deserve daily recess! Studies have shown that daily outdoor play is vital to children's development and can actually help them to learn. D46 children do not receive daily recess and outdoor time is grossly limited. If you are frustrated by this, join our group and help us to organize!

I really never imagined that 250 people would be interested in this issue. It is truly humbling to see that so many of you care about our kids getting the time they need to play. This momentum is entirely because of your support.

Outdoor recess will not only help children learn better and stay more focussed in the classroom but will also curb the continuing increase in childhood obesity and other epidemic health issues. The system has gradually and systematically removed students' opportunities to simply be kids again through play, exercise and independence.

As a former teacher - before staying home with little ones - I can say kids need this in their day - everyday. The kids who need it the most - the ones who act out - will only act out more. They should have a min of 30 min. Possibly split into two 15 min segments

Across the neighborhood in District 50 the children have recess every day and gym every day makes little sense to me why these kids can't either. Adults can take a break from work whenever they need one why would we ask young people to go through a day without one.

Kids need time outdoors to play and release energy so they are able to sit and concentrate. The lack of recess time in Grayslake is embarrassing and something that makes us consider moving to a different district where they understand that kids need time to play and be kids.

The workforce of the future will be expected to create things and solve problems that don't even exist today. When we restrict childhood playtime, we limit possibilities. Play is where creativity and problem solving begins.

Yes! We moved here towards the end of my oldest daughter's first grade year. She went from two recesses a day, plus regular gym times, to two recesses a week! I wasn't surprised when she started having problems focusing and sitting still in class!

Thank you so much for raising this issue. Districts should be mandated to provide recess every day.

All kids need to both recess and gym each and every day - it would help them focus better on their studies
