I am writing to ask you to support the “Cystic Fibrosis Adult Care Center Proposal”. This proposal will have a huge impact on my son and many like him. My son James Krause was the first cystic fibrosis patient to be cared for in 1986 at Fairfax Hospital by Dr. James E. Clayton. Before 1986 children with cystic fibrosis were sent to Children's Hospital for their care, because it was a CF Care Center. Being long time residents of Vienna, Virginia, we decided to go against the advice of other CF parents. We decided to stay with the care Jimmy was receiving from Dr. Clayton, his practice and Fairfax Hospital.

The road was long, but along the way I was able to convince many CF parents this was the road we needed to take. We had one of the best hospitals right in our backyard. We could make it better and one day it too would be a center. The road we paved helped Dr. John Osborn and others turn Inova Fairfax Hospital into a Cystic Fibrosis Care Center.

Jimmy is now twenty-five and it seems we have come to a bump in the road. Two years ago we decided again to stay with Fairfax Hospital. Jimmy is receiving his care from Northern Virginia Critical Care Associates. It was our hopes that this group of highly skilled doctors and nurses would also be a Cystic Fibrosis Care Center. Much to our disappointment this has not happened yet. Considering the number of adults with cystic fibrosis, now outnumbers the pediatric group.

The Northern Virginia area is one of the most affluent regions in the country. How can we not have a CF Care Center for adults at one of the best hospitals in the country? I ask you please sign this petition and support the proposal to give the CF adult community a care center at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
