If Welly streets are too narrow for cycle lanes as we are told just look at many European cities which much narrower streets. How do they achieve a more cycle friendly city ? by prioritising cycling & public transport over cars - come on Wellington become a modern city not struck by out-dated priorities

I am a daily bike commuter from Wadestown to Wellington CBD and often ride on the pedestrian roads as many don't have hard shoulders!
I would love this city more if such space are created more especially in CBD areas!

Be a confident rider not cocky, watch out always for road hazards,buses,car doors. Be clear in your signals to other road users.
Road surfaces are very good to very poor, manholes are slippery when wet!
Maintain good smooth surfaces of cycle lanes, please ask council!

I want safe cycling for all ages and as a first choice. Id love to see children and young people, mums, dads and families, and people in general cycling as their normal way of getting around.

I support sound investment of 4.3million towards cycling infrustructure. Mixing with traffic does not work. Unsafe practice for commuter cyclist. Young and old need to get back onto their bikes and experience the freedom and the joy of riding their bikes without the hassle of motor cares pushing them either off the road, or being tooted at. It is the quickest, smoothest method for moving around in an already cluttered transport city.

Totally agree with wanting to see children (and their parents, grandparents, uncles, aunties, etc.) enjoy getting to schools, parks, beaches, shops using their bikes!

Want better cycling? Have your say today.
Good news: the Wellington city council is planning to invest $4.3 million in cycling next year, up from $1.8m.
But without strong community support, we could lose that funding, and be stuck with a few green bike boxes and crappy bike lanes.
Our Council needs to limit any increase in rates, and also has to fund libraries, pools, events, earthquake strengthening etc.
We need to let our Councillors know that safer and better cycling is a top priority.

- Cycling is a great investment: protects the climate, less congestion, easier parking, lower fuel bills, cleaner air, boosts business.

I recall cycling as a teenager [albeit 50years ago now!!] when cars were slower and traffic never scary. There was always a clear space for cycling then. That's all we need now is more clear space and road user consideration to ride our bikes. Also an economic thought : Every 12 kilometres traveled on a bike saves at least a litre of fossil fuel..

I would like to see traffic being re-routed out of the inner city and the city streets become liveable for pedestrians and cyclists. Safe cycle routes into the city from North, South and East will also make a huge difference in the increase of Everyday Cycling.
