How rubbish is customer service at M&S and Debenhams?!

No matter what part of the country I'm in, I can guarantee that picking up a few bis at M&S or stopping to have lunch at Debenhams (I'm a hungry breast-feeding Mum) will leave me feeling deflated, and irritated. The M&S staff at the self-checkouts stand and frown with their arms folded, or are always talking to other staff members so you have to physically go and get them when your till beeps for a staff code. And when they do pop in a code on your till they never smile or make eye contact. It's a simple 'K?', as is if they are doing you an enormous favour, and are waiting for you to say thank-you. I would have no problem saying thank-you if they actually acknowledged me. Aside from the checkout staff, I have had to ask for staff to let me through the aisle with a pram several times before they've bothered to notice their surroundings, because they're too busy chatting about what they're having for their tea, or about a party. Debenhams cafe staff never bother to ask if I would like a glass with my beverage, and several times a staff member has acknowledged me waiting in line and then completely ignored my food request. Why did she smile and ask if I was okay then? And then when I've repeated my order in frustration , she told another member of staff to get what I wanted, only, she told them I wanted something completely different. My point is that shopping should be straightforward, not a muddle, and not a struggle. Having to deal with women gossiping about you not wearing a cardigan, and huffy-puffy customers in M&S aisles is one thing, but staff should take their jobs seriously. I have complained to management, I have told staff themselves that their customer service is poor. I still have a distressing shopping experience. And so this petition is for (ex)customers of the same mind, who hold the view that M&S and Debenhams overall customer service stinks!!
