The present Sirisena-Ranil administration of Sri Lanka got the mandate of the people by delivering an attractive pledge of taking severe punitive measures against the corruptors who are close associates of the former regime. Thus within their 100-day plan the government must be adamant in keeping that promise not only by displaying their will to deliver what they preach but also by drafting and strengthening necessary laws and regulations to capture those offenders. We are not seeking overnight arrests of those corruptors knowing that is a complex procedure. However in accordance with the prevailing political climate we are compelled to believe that the current administration is neglecting its duty of prosecuting those who found guilty of squandering public funds to bring them into justice.

In terms of some credible reports, the current administration seems to be involving in the disgusting act of protecting those who have criminal charges and engaged in embezzling public money. We have started to grow intolerable witnessing this exercise of the political favouritism of this administration which boasted about the so called “good governance” they preached. The sordid nature of handling the mandate that they were given was displayed in several occasions in the likes of appointing heads of the state institutions, renewing corrupt contracts of the previous government and violating the schedules of implementing the 100-day plan.

Thus it is absolutely necessary that this government must be kept on the right path at least to enforce law against the offender who engaged in unlawful acts with the patronage of the former regime. As citizenry it is imperative for us to be well aware of the conduct of this regime and agitate to make the advent of Good Governance a reality.
