We, the PTO of Culbertson Elementary School, want to bring to your attention a very important issue affecting the future of our school. After more than two years of consideration and planning, the school board has voted to renovate Culbertson to handle the increasing number of students, to modernize it, and to bring it up to state and federal standards. The architects hired by the School District presented the plan publicly at several school board meetings over the last year. The plan was also presented at a public meeting held at the school on the evening of November 29th and was recently amended to take into account certain concerns of neighbors of the school. Construction is slated to begin this summer, with the addition of parking spots, new entrances to the school parking lots, expanded bus lanes and car lanes, and an additional classroom wing at the back of the school. Construction would continue until the fall of 2020, which would included an expanded cafeteria, and a redesigned administration area at the front of the school. The application of the School District to commence with these renovations is presently being considered by the Planning Commission, which is scheduled to meet next Thursday, January 24th at 7 p.m. in the township building at 209 Bishop Hollow Road. We strongly encourage parents to attend and hope to convince the Planning Commission that the students and taxpayers of Newtown Square will be well served by this renovation. We encourage attendance by everyone, including anyone who might be opposed to the project. But we the PTO strongly believe that the renovations are in the best interest of the community as a whole and hope that you can join us next week at the Planning Commission meeting to show your support for our school and the renovations.
