RULES & GUIDELINES for Class of 2020 Outdoor & IN PERSON Connecticut Graduation Ceremonies

Commencement Ceremony Date

Allow for an outdoor assembly of more than 50 people on, or after, June 29th, 2020, or a date determined by the Reopen Connecticut Advisory Committee at an outdoor venue determined by each high school.

Location, Occupancy, Supervision and Layout

  • Outdoor venue only, location determined by each high school (i.e. football field /park)
  • Number of occupants will consist of the graduating student and 2 attendees for each graduate
  • Faculty, administrators, or town officials not to exceed seventy-five (75)
  • Monitors, enforcing the Rules & Guidelines, will be Faculty, Parents and/or Volunteers
  • Monitors will be posted at multiple entrances, allowing only graduates and attendees with tickets entrance into the venue. Monitors will also prohibit entrance to un-authorized visitors
  • Staggered shifts for entry and exit of graduates and attendees
  • Monitors will be assigned to parking areas so that arrivals and departures are safely coordinated
  • One (1) Monitor will be assigned and responsible for a group of twenty (20) graduates, enforcing commencement ceremony rules and guidelines
  • Assigned seating for graduates and attendees, allowing for maximum spacing but no less than 6-foot distancing
  • 6 - foot distancing between all graduates and attendees, other than attendees that reside in the same household
  • Students may walk across a stage maintaining 6’ foot distancing and pose for a professional photo
  • Reiterate rules and guidelines at the start of the commencement ceremony to ensure safety
  • Clearly mark 6-foot spacing (lines or signage) on ground at entry and exit points, allowing one-way traffic flow to limit bottlenecks and encourage distance spacing
  • Receipt of official diploma in mail, to avoid handshaking or physical contact

Protective Measures

  • Each graduate and attendee shall be required to wear a mask, covering their mouth and nose before, during and after ceremony
  • Masks will be provided for those that do not have a mask
  • All graduates and attendees will be provided with hand sanitizer at point of entry
  • All graduates and attendees will have their temperature taken
  • No food or beverages will be allowed other than water
  • Post signage with event rules and guidelines in multiple locations
  • No in person rehearsals for graduates
  • Communicate and distribute, prior to the event, rules and guidelines to all graduate and attendees
  • Graduates and attendees must acknowledge that they will comply with rules and guidelines
  • Broadcast or provide on-line the ceremony for others to view
  • Graduates and attendees must immediately leave school property
  • Restrooms/Portable bathrooms will have Monitors and will be sanitized after each use

Additional Protective Measures

  • Graduates and attendees must acknowledge that they will comply with rules and guidelines
