GOVERNOR NED LAMONT - RESTORE CONNECTICUT VOTERS’ RIGHT TO VOTE ON BUDGET BY ANNUAL TOWN MEETING AND REFERENDUM

We, the undersigned, are registered voters in the state of Connecticut. We submit that Governor Ned Lamont’s Executive Orders 7c, 7i, 7s and now 7HH issued May 1, 2020, have usurped our right to self representation in the form of an Annual Town Meeting and Budget Referendum.

Executive Order 7S allows for Special Town Meetings and referenda on any subject, it is disproportionately arbitrary to single out those that pertain to the Annual Budget. Now 7HH (https://tinyurl.com/ExecOrd7HH) forbids any budget Annual Town Meeting or Referendum, safe or otherwise!

These orders abrogate the Constitutional principle of consent of the governed, a value that dates back to the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut in 1639!

We urge and compel Governor Ned Lamont to immediately restore our right to direct democracy by issuing a new Executive Order that allows ALL Connecticut municipalities to hold safe referenda on any subject, including municipal budgets.

By signing this petition, you are sending the message that is NOT OKAY for government to engage in voter suppression on ANY level.

Please join us in our quest to compel Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont to restore our right to vote!
