The dress code in Cleveland School of the Arts "doesn't make sense," describes one sophomore.

A junior described her feelings toward the uniform policy in a similar manner; "The dress code... doesn't let us express our art... last year it was way different." When it comes to the CMSD dress code, the district has two ideas in mind: uniformity and professionalism. The 2015-2016 code of conduct states "a student who looks and feels their best is well suited for academic success." While the district believes uniformity "reflects students' confidence and pride in their school and individual person", Cleveland School of the Arts students are tired of the current dress code, and they're ready for a change.

Here is the (proposed) new dress code for CSA:

TOPS: Blue, White, Black, or Greyscale collared shirt or turtleneck; striped/patterned shirts acceptable in the allowed colors; No logos bigger than 1.5 inch. Any color sweater/pullover acceptable. Hoodies allowed but no hoods on the head.

BOTTOMS: Blue, Brown/Khaki, or Black pants/shorts. Skirts and Shorts must fall above the knee (no booty shorts). Material must be cotton, uniform, or cordoroy; however, Joggers and Denim material are acceptable in allowed colors. Jeans cannot feature pocket designs or rips. No sagging.

OTHER: Ties and scarves (no bandanas) are allowed. Belts are required.(This dress code does not affect Dress Down Days, national organization days, religious diversions or other concerns.)
