Croydon Council/NHS must consult residents before selling Addington Community Centre

Following various talks and actions to support the sustaining of the ACA hall, the Croydon Cabinet have decided to secretly sell the building to the NHS.
Page 458/508 on the cabinet report !
The document suggest that the cabinet had no time to consult with local residents.

As chair of New Addington’s community group ‘ReNA’ I believe quick action needs to be taken. The people of New Addington need to be rightly heard before such a decision is made.

Croydon Council is trying to hide this deal in the fine print because they know damn well we would fight it. We are approaching 100 signatures but we need to shove this back in their faces before they finalize the sale.

This hall is part of our heritage. We grew up going to the cinema there and had numerous parties. Went to bingo there and the only hall that caters for all ages. The council have taken everything else away from us. The pubs the clubs and now this hall.
Community spaces [that are effectively utilised] play a massive part in safeguarding and engaging young people within urban communities. Closing this space will not have any positive impacts on the community. This is a space that needs to be made use of to empower and support young locals.
It's a very useful community asset, the loss of which will be felt throughout the community. A new health centre may be wanted by some, but ask the community if they want to loose this asset first.
I really really want to save the ACA because at the moment New Addington has not got any “family” community centres!!!! The 2 new ones are completely out of normal people budgets!!!! And are certainly not people friendly like the ACA was xxxx Please please help us
Boxing is the best thing that’s ever happen to me, due to suffering from autism it’s enabled me to meet new people and feel accepted. It’s boosted my confidence and since starting boxing I can say I have not self harmed in any way for a while! Closing boxing done will make my mental health spiral.
Surely there must be consultation on this when the centre is currently benefitting the community and young people! Going ahead risks more unrest and crime in the community.

As a local resident for some 25+ years, and after seeing so many services taken away from our community like the Job Center, mental health services and housing offices, I feel the council is just abandoning New Addigton. Speak with us before you make decisions for us that affect everyone apart from thise who decide what's best for us.
