Over the past two years, 3 Middleton High School students have been hit crossing Hillsborough Avenue between N. 22nd Street and N. 30th Street. Unfortunately two of those students died as a result of these accidents. The majority of the pedestrians that are crossingthis area are residents of Meridian Pointe Apartments. Individuals leave from their home and have to cross a busy road as a shortcut to school, as well as to get food, go shopping, and get groceries from the plaza directly across the street.

As a Tampa resident and a concerned citizen, I would like to petition the city of Tampa, Hillsborough County and the State of Florida to provide a safer route across Hillsborough Avenue between North 22nd and 30th avenues via a flashing crosswalk that stops vehicles when pedestrians are present, an intersection with street lights, or a raised crosswalk for pedestrians to walk above Hillsborough Avenue.
