The Alaska Library Association does not have a roundtable devoted to Youth Services. To create a new roundtable, a petition with the signatures of at least 7 AkLA members needs to be submitted to the AkLA Executive Council. The Youth Services Roundtable will be organized within the Alaska Library Association. Youth Services encompasses library services to children, teens, and adults who care for youth. The Roundtable would be entitled to a voting representative on the Executive Council of AkLA.
Purpose
- To foster communication and cooperation among Youth Services librarians.
- To advance a high standard for the Youth Services profession in libraries statewide.
- To promote the development of continuing education opportunities to aid in the growth of professional skills and knowledge.
- To provide input to AkLA regarding programs, activities, and initiatives.

I love this. YA services needs a better voice. And I filled out papers, but I don't think I am listed as a member for AkLA. I am the Librarian for Alaska Native Cultural Charter School and an ALA member.

It is time to elevate Youth Services to the same organizational stature as other discreet areas of librarianship in the state.
