The University of Rhode Island is located in the rural area of Kingston, Rhode Island. Because the main point of entry and exit is the two lane highways of RI Route 138 and Route 108, traffic congestion becomes a problem during the peak hours by campus. To fix this we propose that the University create parking spots in convenient locations throughout campus commuter lots (the front of Fine Arts, by the Plains Road Bus Stop, along Chapel Way by the Emporium) that only allow students with a specific carpool parking pass to use. This way the amount of cars coming to campus are reduced and students participating in the carpool program have the incentive of more convenient parking.
