You may ask why bother fighting depression? Now the obvious response would be that some of the solutions such as handing out flyers or having informational events are already being implemented, so why should we do anything else? Depression is not a problem that will magically disappear because of one idea or solution. Instead, it will be something that we will always have to fight against. I know it is something worth fighting because without the fight where would we be? We would be in a world where no one could feel anything, the good or bad. We have to find a way to make our life meaningful; each person has his or her own ways, but with this we could have something in common. I understand that people have their doubts, but we need to at least try. Think to when depression did not exist, we cannot. We have to learn how to coexist with the pain, that is part of life’s purpose. We would not just be changing our life; we would be changing everyone’s life.

With every step we take, we are one step closer to fighting depression. We would be able to no longer distinguish ourselves as “us” and people with depression as “them”, but instead as "we". Please sign the petition if you want to be part of the change at UAB to create a mandatory class and club to fight depression. I want us to live in a world where people are no longer afraid to talk about depression. Let us all come together and decided to make UAB a place where students are no longer afraid of having depression. Instead, they can get the help they really need.

Celebrities often have an impact on people, specifically young adults. We all look up to them and in some cases try to be like them. Depression does not just affect your average joe, but celebrities as well. There is not discrimination among depression, if affects us all. Through adding a quote from a celebrity, I am trying to show that we are all connected in some way. Take a moment in reading the quote below. As Demi Lovato said, "“It’s my mission to share this with the world and to let them know that there is life on the other side of those dark times that seem so hopeless and helpless. I want to show the world that there is life -- surprising, wonderful and unexpected life after diagnosis.”
