There are quite a few students at Daniel Morgan Middle School who are not being provided safe transportation to school simply because they live too close to the school's zone. Some of these children are as young as 9 and 10 years of age, since Daniel Morgan Middle School opened their doors to 5th graders. These children, although living not too far from DMMS, are too young to walk to school alone. As young vulnerable pedestrians, these students risk harm from factors such as reckless drivers, older school bullies, harsh seasonal elements, and worst of all, registered and non registered sex offenders in their route to school. This petition is to convince the Virginia Dept. of Education, and the Winchester City School Board to provide safe transportation to the younger students of DMMS.
