My son attends school at Arnold Mill Elementary School in Cherokee County, Georgia. We live in a neighborhood off of West Wiley Bridge road. Because of the way school boundaries are drawn in this area, even though Arnold Mill Elementary is less than 2 miles from our house (as the crow flies), the route to the school is close to 7 miles and requires buses and drivers to pass the much larger Little River Elementary School on Trickum Road in order to get there. This causes major traffic problems on Trickum Road during rush hour due to:

  1. The number of students being dropped off at Little River by bus and parent
  2. The number of buses and drivers passing Little River to get to Arnold Mill, Mill Creek, and River Ridge High Schools
  3. The number of commuters passing the school to get to work

Not only is there traffic to contend with on Trickum Road, our buses, parents, and driving students must also contend with rush hour traffic on Highway 92 just to reach Trickum Road.

A much safer route to Arnold Mill Elementary School, Mill Creek Middle School, and River Ridge High School for the buses and parents could be accomplished by creating a Cox Road connector through to Arnold Mill Road.

Proposal:

The roads already exist that could connect Cox to Arnold Mill in the proposed location. The First Leg of the new route would be Cox Road to the road passing the Little River Water Treatment Plant. The Second Leg of the new route would be Bluebird Acres Drive to Arnold Mill. These two roads would be connected by a new bridge over the Little River. An all-way stop, roundabout, or stop light is proposed for the intersection of Bluebird Acres Drive and Arnold Mill Road for safety reasons.
