I’ve found writing down what I consider to be my current understanding of a problem is helpful in mapping the landscape of any complex problem and its various pathways of discovery. My approach is anchored in the implementation of lean methodologies, experiment design, analysis and the ultimate goal of continuous innovation. With that said, thank you so much for starting this extremely important step to allow me and others to put pen to paper on our initial thoughts. I’m confident this petition will inspire others to join and collaborate on solutions for a once in a century pandemic. To work on solutions that could save thousands of lives. My thoughts. • Understanding the pathology of COVID-19 is the first critical step to the mission of improving the outcomes for all patients. The risk of outbreak is highest for patients with high morbidity and compromised immune systems. The ability to measure community spread and transmission is one of our weakest links in our efforts to slow the exponential growth of transmission, advanced cases and death certificates. Currently several diagnostic testing kits are slowly reaching scale to patients with advanced symptoms. However while improving the current data model is negatively impacted due to a multitude of testing failures, sampling rates, methodologies, workflows, and unstructured data generated from a variety of technology and disparate systems. This is one of the fundamental problems that must be simplified and prioritized for the escalating stages of the pandemic. These issues further complicate the ability to continuously improve the availability, sensitivity and accuracy of testing kits. Which also also negatively impacts the accuracy of the downstream data models used for development of simulations and modeling of community transmission rates, community spread, death rates and various pathology, global policy development, therapeutic development and analysis. As most of us have witnes
