In challenging times, it is essential for leaders to consider those people most vulnerable to our health and economic stresses. I congratulate the Graduate Student Congress for representing UK's graduate students and their concerns.

Graduate students are important to the functioning of the university, and should be treated as such.

The situation that exists for students this semester has been an extreme hardship and severely impacted most of us to work to the potential that we all have. In addition, as a student in History, the inability to conduct research in libraries and archives has made meeting the semester's challenges very difficult at least. To create new and innovative research in this field you cannot depend on search algorithms and online resources since, for so many of us, things exist as physical media only and is waiting in some forgotten box or corner just to be discovered. Allowing us funding over the summer will allow us to do the things you brought us here to do, perform the best research and writing possible while enhancing UK's world image as a leading research and teaching institution. We work hard for UK, we love UK, and all we want is the opportunity to prove that UK is great.

3rd year PhD student looking to take his Qualifying Exam in August. I need funding to be able to make it through the Summer, especially if the University's other income opportunities (the Library or Special Collections) remain closed for the foreseeable future.

After reading the university's statement of pride in not having laid off graduate students, we'd like to clarify that we are asking for extensions of funding. Responses along the lines of "we are so glad we haven't had to fire you all" read more like threats, and show that you are not hearing our demands.
