Councilman Withers Stop The Shenanigans!

Don't shut down these beautiful mansions and wedding venues that help make so many couples dreams come true!

Say it ain't so.

This is unacceptable on every level.

Looks like Withers is withdrawing this, but the idea that the Council would be preventing essentially private events, on private lawns? I could see regulating traffic if that's an issue-- but this seems ridiculous.

I manager a historic home in historic district and I disagree with this politician.

Even as a resident of Chattanooga, we visit these historic homes. They bring in visitors and money from all over the country!

This proposed bill is ludicrous and frivolous. Wth mo explanation given by Councilman Withers, how can anyone take this seriously? What is his beef with these venues. Seems like a man on a power trip to me.

Please do NOT shut down Cedarwood and other historic wedding venues. This is where my husband and I were married last year and it is the most magical wedding venue and they deserve to be open and continue making wedding dreams come true!

I am a photographer who works out of East Ivy. I have been working there for 9 months. East Ivy is a beautiful historic venue that should be enjoyed by Brides and Grooms on their special days. As a Nashville native, I believe it is important to make decisions that better Nashville and I don't believe this is one of them. East Ivy is a great venue that is very curtious to its neighbors. I believe a move like this would take not only me but many others out of their jobs. It would also decrease the value of the great and beautiful change that has happened in East Nashville, specifically district 6, over the past few years. Why ruin the unity of history and the future that has been brought together in many of these great venues like East Ivy, Cedarwood, and Riverwalk? We need to save the history of this amazing city I call home by admiring and treating these historical sites with honor and I don't believe this will do that.

He is against small business owners in Nashville and looks for ways to shut downs jobs and income with he bills that he proposes.

Why is not dealing with the real problems of the community? This seems petty and like he has a bone to pick with these venues. Or maybe he is just another person elected as a politician and then became an IDIOT as seems to be happening to so many of our politicians, DEAL WITH REAL PROBLEMS.

I have no idea what the motivation behind this bill could be!

Another reason to wonder how idiots get elected to public office. There has to be some reason - probably because he doesn't make any money via "campaign contributions" (ha ha)

There's got to be more to this story. Looks like District 6 has once again picked the wrong guy. Of course we didn't do any better in District 5 either. But we're still not as bad off as District 1.

I find it incredibly troubling that Withers offers no justification for wanting to close down these venues. What is his reasoning behind this bill? It seems quite mean-spirited and will cost Nashville jobs and revenue for no good reason.

I'm a wedding planner at a historic site in middle TN, BL2015-96 would force so many rental venues to close, and the vendors associated with those sites to suffer great losses. These homes have offered a gorgeous, southern feel for couples and corporate clients, to pull them out of the list of TN's fine venues, would be a catastrophic mistake. Nashville is one of the top wedding destination locations in the country, and it's southern homes are one of the main attractions.

This councilmen needs to pull the stick out of his bottom... Do something to actually make our city better, not micromanage wedding venues!!!

I cannot even believe that this bill is being proposed. Nashville's Wedding Scene would not be what it is today without these historic venues. My best friend was married at Historic CedarWood Mansion and it was one of the most breath taking venues I've ever laid eyes on. Riverwood Mansion is hands down the most romantic and family friendly venue I have ever seen. If my invite list had not been close to 300 people my husband and I would have been married at one of these two venues. As women, we dream about what we want our weddings to look like from childhood. Taking away these intimate and historic venue options would kill the dreams of hundreds of brides and young women and I'm seriously not exaggerating!! Do NOT take away these venues!!
