I wish senior citizens would receive a city tax reduction.

Great start in a great direction! With this in place, Council can get positive credit for their great work AND can also get help/input from the public they serve to correct direction and solve problems. Sounds like win-win potential! What else can we all do to support you in this effort?

Have been too many problems with apparent open meetings law violations, etc. And it's too hard to get information about contractors and bids

It certainly wouldn't hurt to try this concept. Always consider accessibility, convenient times (you don't want to rule out working folks or seniors), and "customer-friendly" format.

Even local government is of, by, and for the people. Newport's is no different and should make citizen involvement an expected way of governance.

In addition to face to face, could technology be harnessed to increase participation (skype...video etc). But face to face is a great start

This idea could really catch on as an effective communication exchange. Need to find a way to make it attractive to folks to show up...not just when they have an axe to grind. It has to be worth it and work or it will just be another chance for the nay-sayers to say
told you so!'

"You-Know-a-Guy" style of Newport gov't needs to be retired. World-class cities of all sizes have this level of discourse with all its stakeholders. There should be nothing to fear; let's do it.

Badly needed status updates what city hall is working on, progress report:s, strategic initiatives updates, resolutions updates, and addressing community concerns!

Great idea! The opportunity to have more transparency and partnering is welcomed! This outreach would help pull the community together and encourage more civic participation. Love the idea of regular updates in an open forum setting...scheduled for the same day/time each month. Proactive governing is always better than reactive excuses!
