Support a 3% Cost of Care Increase for the NJ Workforce Providing Services and Supports for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

The New Jersey SFY 2015 budget does not include a 3% cost of care increase for providers of community services targeted to increase the salaries and benefits of Direct Service Professionals (DSP's) providing care to people every day. Providers have been unable to increase DSP wages because there has not been a Cost of Care Increase in over 6 years. The system supporting people is expanding and critical to maintaining quality services and supports is a skilled workforce. DSP's often work two jobs and receive government assistance just to make ends meet. Sign the petition and ask lawmakers to support a 3% cost of care increase so people can continue to live in integrated communities and DSP's can continue to do the work they love.

We just hit one thousand signatures and the weight of this work feels heavy tonight. It is exhausting to keep pushing for fair pay when the system stays so rigid. I am tired but I am not walking away from this fight for our workforce.

The climb to one hundred signatures feels incredibly long after six years of silence from those in charge. I am exhausted by the constant uphill battle but we have to push this number over the threshold today. Please find a way to get this in front of others because we cannot afford to let this momentum fade now.

WHY must we always BEG our lawmakers to help individuals with disabilities as well as their DIRECT CARE TAKERS!!! We send so much money to other countries. Our priority, should be to our adult/children and their Care Takers. Please provide them with the 3% cost of care increase. Not including this in your budget...disgraceful. Thank you.

Our government needto care about people! Those who work on cars and computers make alot of money. People should be worth more than those. The priorities need an overhaul!

DSPs are the heart of the system. Giving them 3% is the bare minimum you could do for the work they put in every single day.

Thank you for your support. Please pass the I-Petition link along to anyone you know that is concerned about the wages being paid to our Direct Service Professionals. While our chances of getting 3% are slim, having a large volume of indiviudals signing on to the petition may make a significant differfence. Valerie Sellers, CEO NJACP

its been 6 years already? ridiculous. these people work so hard and deserve to make a living wage instead of struggling every month. fix the budget already.

My daughter has been with the same staff for years and they deserve a raise!!!! They do so much and get paid so little. It is honestly so insulting how little this state values them.
