As a former TEA state director of CTE, I recommend to keep Cosmo I and II as three credits each course.

There is not enough time in a two period class ( 2 credit) to properly teach some of the skills require in cosmetology and that is mandated by TEA and TDLR. The class is best taught in a 3 credit or 3 consecutive period. The teacher of cosmetology for the pubic schools only want our students to be successful and 3 credit class will achieve the greatest student success.

I'm a cosmetolgy instructor and cosmetology 1 and 2 should be 3 credits. These students work hard to optain their license to work in industry. Too many of these student never intend to go to college. This license is their way succeed. It is there way to have self worth and accomplishment. Please don't take these classes to 2 credits. They struggle already for enough time in their schedules for a class that will help them support themselves right out of school, many of them needing to work to help their families. Please help our students and make these classes 3 credit hours.

Or students would not be able to teach the 1,000 hour requirement for licensing without 3 class periods in my class, which is why we need 3 credits.

As a seasoned cosmetology instructor and Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Advisory Board member of Cosmetology I vote to maintain three concurrent credits in cosmetology. Many schools will be adopting the change in yearly minutes (8600 - 7600) which will reduce calendar days in a school year for students. With three credits we use every minute to implement the entire curriculum and cultivate a well-rounded student ready for the certification exam and workforce. Executing two credits will decrease the opportunities for certification completions in our programs.

Having the hours to qualify for state exams is a requirement . Schools should support their programs by allowing students time to achieve and comply.

I do trimesters and we need the time to get students 1000 hours of class time. If not it may be close but then getting them to take both state tests will be harder to schedule while they are still in public school. Then schools won't get Perkins grants to continue this programs.

The students will not have sufficient classroom time to learn all of the material to become a successful hairstylist. It will cut down the hours they are able to get while in highschool and force them to finish outside of highschool. The programs will die out at the highschool level because of this.
