The failure of bicyclists and pedestrians on the Silver Strand bike path to yield at the entrance to the Coronado Cays results in a very dangerous intersection for vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians.

Please place a stop sign in lieu of the existing yield signs for bicyclists and pedestrians. In addition -- caution, warning, hazard signs or lights and/or speed bumps would help to calm the speed of the bicyclists entering the intersection into oncoming vehicular traffic.

This petition places the City of Coronado, CalTrans and State of California on actual notice of the dangerous intersection. Without action, there will be serious injuries and/or deaths.

Lived in the Cays for 5 years and can’t tell you how many times cars have been left in the strand highway stopped waiting for pedestrians or cyclists with the possibility of the cross traffic lights turning green and 65mph traffic not stopping. Cyclists don’t yield and don’t pay attention to the traffic lights because of the separation of the bike path from the highway and the signage is not sufficient to be safe. I am also a cyclist and watch very experienced riders have difficulty navaigating the intersection during light changes.

The weird thing is that at least 90% of 'bicyclists' are also drivers, but they don't drive the bike the same way they drive the car. Not all of that is bad (bikes are very different from cars, after all), but the not yielding right of way at intersections is a problem. I think the best solution is a separate crossing light for the bike path (with off-set signal phase with the traffic light, else bikes may get hit by right-turning cars taking off at the same time). In the meanwhile, tho, more signage may help. Thanks to Coronado Cays folks for trying to help avoid an accident.

Cars get stuck in the busy intersection when bikes don't yield when the light is green for cross traffic. How about a pedestrian walk light for the bike path at this intersection coordinated with the traffic light?

Current signs on the bike path are very small and sun faded. The Cays intersection is extremely dangerous with bicycles crossing traffic lanes without looking for cars or slowing for cars in the traffic circle and traffic light.

Bicycles do not respect the “yield “ sign. We need a physical way of stopping them like a barrier where they have to dismount.

Yes. It a very dangerous area. Cars cannot see the cyclists and the cyclist do not obey the yield sign and they just go through. Please share. We need a stop sign at the bike path. I have seen multiple accidents. It is dangerous for the cyclists and also for the car drivers if we encounter a cyclist.

This intersection needs to be looked at. Cyclists do not stop and it becomes very dangerous for vehicles passing through.
