Our job as the Corning Joint Fire District is to serve and protect the public. We have been fortunate to do that but unfortunately our numbers have honestly been down, our response to EMS calls has been down as well to fire calls. This is not CJFD issue only as all volunteer numbers around the world are down. We can keep our promise to the public by becoming a combination department to assure we always have a crew on the job 24/7. To give you some thought these are some of the departments who have gone combination with half or more than half our call volume- horseheads, Town and country, Big flats, West Elmira. Another benefit we will gain is to offer our young firefighters a chance to be able to earn an income while serving the community.
