Condemn the Brutality of UCLA UCPD

Acting Chancellor Norman Abrams University of California, Los Angeles Murphy Hall 2147 Los Angeles, CA 90095 Contact: justice@cornell.edu To UCLA Acting Chancellor Norman Abrams, We the undersigned, members of the Cornell University Community, wish to join in solidarity with the students of UCLA in condemning the actions of UCLA UCPD on the night of November 14, 2006. The conduct of the officers involved, including repeated tasering of an unarmed student, threatening witnesses with similar brutality, and disregarding the vocal concerns of both Mostafa Tabatabainejad and the witnesses merits disciplinary action. The extent of force used against unarmed UCLA student Mostafa Tabatabainejad was highly inappropriate. For this reason we support a thorough and unbiased investigation of the incident. In addition to supporting such an investigation, we call for a reevaluation of taser use as well as strong censure for the officers involved. Students should not be made to fear the people who are charged to protect them. Resolved.
