On Monday, June 3,2002, the program director at WBAI, expressed to a member of C.O.R.N. that \"Circle of Red Nations\" was in jeopardy of being canceled. The C.O.R.N. member was told that June 3rd\'s show may be the very last \"Circle of Red Nations\" to air on WBAI. NO REASON WAS GIVEN. Prior to this, Lucia Henriquez, the Executive Producer of the show, Vanessa Pastrana and George Stonefish, Co-Producers and Co-Hosts, were never informed about WBAI\'s plan to cancel the original Native American Radio Broadcast in the Metropolitan Area. Circle of Red Nations has been on the air for more than 16 years and has represented all Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island! Furthermore, we\'ve recently included Indigenous speakers from other continents in our programming. Pacifica\'s Mission Statement is to \"contribute to a lasting understanding between individuals of all nations, races, creeds, and colors.....\" However , we, the Members of C.O.R.N., do not feel that Pacifica is assisting in the promotion of the understanding Native Americans by canceling one of our only media outlets. We are asking for 1 hour a week and as First People of this Nation, we do not feel as if we are asking for too much! We need to put international pressure on this institute in order for them to do what is right. The power is in your hands! For the Spirits of our ancestors --- PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION AND SPREAD THE WORD! Call and notify the following individuals about this biased decision: Bernard White, Program Director 212-209-2835 Valerie Van Isler, General Manager 212-209-2900

Seeing this groundswell of interest reminds me that the history of Circle of Red Nations belongs to a community far larger than our small production team. It is heartening to realize that so many people value the presence of Indigenous voices on the airwaves as much as we do.

I grew up with this program and the school program when I was a child living in the Bronx. It gave me comfort to know that I was accepted by my grandmother's people. Don't end the program, it's needed. Thank You.

This is messed up. WBAI needs to respect the indigenous community and stop silencing these voices.

16 years and they just cut it off like that? Total disgrace. Fix this.

WBAI has no right to just kill this show. It is the only place we get to hear our voices on the radio in NYC. Keep it on the air.
