The athletic department has officially adopted the new gym allocation policy we proposed to ensure equitable practice time for all programs. I am currently monitoring the implementation phase to verify that these criteria are applied consistently throughout the upcoming season.

Attention Sandy Ridge Team Sports Community,

We are writing to address an ongoing issue of inequality in gym time allocation that we have observed and experienced at the sports facility. Coral Academy's core values are respect, responsibility, and honesty, among others. The school's sports program has always been a fantastic platform for fostering fun, interactive, and diverse sports activities for elementary, middle, and high school teams. However, the current scheduling and communication practices have become a significant obstacle for all teams to grow, gain experience, and learn.

During the past season, we noticed an alarming disparity in practice time distribution. One particular sport monopolized the prime practice slots, leaving little to no opportunities for other teams to access the facility. When we raised this concern with the leadership, we were met with a disappointing lack of accountability, communication, and support. It is disheartening to witness such a disregard for equal opportunities and disinterest in redeeming obvious gaps in professionalism and duty of care.

We firmly believe that this situation can and should be rectified by establishing basic core criteria for gym time allocation. By proactively implementing transparent communication, efficient organization, and proficiency, we can ensure that all teams receive their fair share of practice time. It is crucial to nurture meaningful relationships among coaches, students, and parents, fostering a supportive community that values and prioritizes the development of all participants.

We urge you to join us in taking a stand against the current state of affairs and supporting improvements within the athletic department's administration. Together, we can bring awareness to the Governing Board and other leadership and advocate for a more equitable distribution of gym time at Coral Academy. Let's work towards creating an inclusive environment where every team has the opportunity to thrive and succeed, and there is a check and balances system that ensures accountability and professionalism.

This has been going on for much too long! Let all students excel in both academics AND sports so that they have the opportunity to get a sport’s scholarship and academic scholarship to their dream college(s). Get rid of the favoritism! It destroys opportunities for others and the confidence of the students. The fact that this is still a topic of conversation and that it hasn’t been fixed in all of these years is very sad and points to poor management.

Athletic director should not show favoritism towards her own team and deny hours even when she's not using the gym. There needs to be transparency and fairness across all sports.

Mom of Ashlynn and Caleb Wingate who play on both girls and boys basketball. The students feel the inequities in the basketball program compared to other sports on a daily basis. The AD has been disorganized and prioritized every other sport over basketball. This despite 2 dedicated hard working head coaches and a team of parents willing to donate time and money to the program.

I concur with this petition. There's a glaring disparity between one particular sport versus all the others. Please help me and all of us understand why there is so much time and resources dedicated to volleyball when it was in fact your swim team that actually went to States two years in a row and brought home several gold medals. And yet, they were not even so much as mentioned in your yearbook. The banner in the gym is incomplete, and there continues to be a lack of administrative and financial support. I'm not interested in hearing excuses for this as the past can't be undone, but I fully expect to hear what your solutions are moving forward.

Parent of Kaitlyn This girls basketball team is committed, ranks high academically, and totally love the game. They have 2 great coaches that are committed to their excellence and the community. As parents, we support the team with game attendance and financially. Fair gym times is essentially for these girls to develop and should be scheduled equally with other gym teams!

Swim team went to States two years in a row. Brought home several gold medals. ZERO recognition from the school, no leadership representative at any of the meets, no pictures or pages in the yearbook. Boys team was academic state champs too, and girls team was also a podium finish. Meanwhile, the AD played favorites and still managed steady and regular losses. That reeks of incompetence and unprofessionalism, and is due for some accountability.
