So many other shelters/rescue organizations need volunteers as well!

They accepted my volunteer application right before I moved to Coppell six years ago. In the days it took for me to move, they no longer accepted volunteers. I volunteer for the city of Rockwall for two years. They had no problems with liability. I would love to care for the kitties again!

This is a much needed service. some animals do not do well in a shelter environment and need the human socialization. Socialization will also help in getting the animals adopted. This is a win-win for all that would be involved. Please approve the volunteer program for Coppell. Thank you.

If liability is the issue, couldn't they have a liability waiver like many places do? volunteers willing to sign the waiver can then volunteer. Also, the benefits of having a volunteer program despite any overhead it may create for the shelter or the city, may to be proven. I would love to volunteer here.

If this initiative isn't costing the city any money then what good reason is there for the CPD to deny this request?!

Several years ago the Animal Shelter had a volunteer program and I was one of two volunteers for several years. The city HR stopped the program for liability issues. Liability is a BIG issue for the City and Police Department. They have no way of insuring the volunteers against injuries. Dog bites can occur on calls or in the shelter. Good luck on your petition.
