NDP-Green Cooperation - NOW!

NDP-Green Cooperation - NOW! We, the undersigned, invite the federal New Democratic Party and the Green Party of Canada to meet and begin negotiations toward a mutually beneficial agreement which would maximize the number of winnable seats in anticipation of the forth-coming election. With the NDP stuck in the 13 to 20 % range and the Green Party polling consistently in the 8 to 12% range, it is unlikely that the NDP will gain seats and may lose some while the Greens may be shut out again. Yet, with a strategic alliance of New Democrats and Greens, there is a real possibility to win 50 or 60 ridings, many NDP and several Green. We propose this unusual one-time cooperation because the country needs bold action to bring about fundamental change to the untenable political situation that exists in Ottawa and may well continue to exist following the next election. With Mr. Harper not yet in \"majority\" territory and with Mr. Dion\'s lacklustre performance, this gives both smaller parties a chance to make this a three-way fight for power. The country needs a forceful group of MPs to push forward a progressive agenda, in particular on the issue of climate change. In addition, this block of votes could be the base for a move toward electoral reform and a proportional voting system. We, the undersigned, urge action on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
