In November 2010 the City of Ottawa Planning and Environment Committee made a decision to purchase x hectares of land on the south and south east portion of the convent site to be used for parkland. This land purchase would be in addition to the pedestrian walk way along the east portion of the site.

This park land would create a park with ward-wide and city-wide appeal. The lands are adjacent to a large heritage building which will be accessible to the public. The entire site is easily accessible to a wide area by walking and bike path along the Byron Linear Park pathway. The parkland should eliminate over 200 residential units from the development and help bring the density for this area closer to the official plan targets. Density, traffic, noise, trucks, and building proximity to the Byron Linear Park were all raised as concerns by many many people and this would alleviate them to a great extent.

The purchase was to be financed by using the ward's park fund of $1.3M plus a ward-wide levy over a period of twenty years. The levy could be just over $7 per household per year if the purchase price were $5M, if the parks fund of $1.3M were applied and if the levy was in effect for twenty years.

The purpose of this petition is to indicate support for the above and to a levy of up to $10.00 per year, if that were required, for residents of Kitchissippi ward.
