It is time for the city of Kalamazoo and the Michigan Department of Natural Resource to come up with a solution to the growing size of the local deer herd. Property damage, degradation of environment, auto accidents, etc. are increasing and negatively impacting the city's quality of life. Moreover, the overpopulation negatively impacts the health of the local herd.

I am currently compiling photos of property damage and accident reports to present to the city council. Send your own accounts of neighborhood incidents to my inbox so we have a full record of the impact. Call your local representative today to insist they prioritize this issue in the next meeting.

The momentum we have built proves the city can no longer ignore the impact of the deer herd on our streets and yards. Call the city manager today and demand an immediate public meeting to address these safety concerns.

The size of the herd in city limits and adjacent municipalities is causing ecological unbalance in the area with lack of predatory pressure. With CWD just a few counties away the need to do herd management in a publicly unhuntable area due to human population density is a necessity and the ethical management practice.

I’m ONLY IN SUPPORT of this petition if we can find a humane way to do this. I’m against killing them but would highly favor neutering the males. This would help considerably as one male can impregnate upwards of 25 does in one month.

My idea is to have the DNR thin out the herd and have the meat processed for the local homeless shelters and vets. It seems like a win win solution to the problem.

I’m all in favor of an urban archery season in Kalamazoo and Portage. Kalamazoo County has limited public hunting access as it is. If we can help the deer herd and open up more hunting opportunities it sounds like a win win. If you’re a person that wants local fresh food, doesn’t get much better.

Lived here on Winchell and Sheffield 40 years! In the last three, the deer have destroyed 36 years of investment in our gardens and ground covers! Enough is enough! Now spending $$$ on Deer sprays, etc. Do something about the deer herd please!! There are 8-10 in my front and back yard every night - AND it’s a bust corner!!

17+ deer roaming in the church of Christ yard is common and becoming increasingly problematic. My dog has been attacked by a buck and I suffer considerable damage to my yard on an annual basis. Culling the deer herd is the proper and ethical thing to do.

There is also a risk of disease from the ticks which deer can carry.
