The move to shut down football at UAB- especially after watching the Blazers become bowl eligible this weekend- would be absolutely the wrong move.

The arguments against the Blazers are spurious at best, and could be applied to nearly every program in the country. Legion Field is a dump because of lack of Board of Trustees support, and axing the program is the only way to ensure that UAB dies out. The expenses on the football team are miniscule by comparison to the goodwill and publicity they generate. I know about the medical school, the business school, and the university itself because of the football team. They just achieved bowl-eligibility, and they have averaged 21k fans/game. As a small-school program, this is remarkable, and they deserve respect. Bear Jr. needs to pull his head out of a not-so-nice place and let the Blazers live.

Why destroy a University that has been a shinning star for Birming and the many students who have received Degrees from ALL phases of learning just to appease the whims of a few members of the Board of Trustees? Are they jealous of the accomplishments made by this University? I have ties to UAB since my Daughter, my first Grand Daughter graduated and my youngest Granddaughter is now a student there where she is excelling in the School of Psychology. i am proud of the Education they have received. my question is "why try to fix something that is not broken?"

As a lifelong college football fan, I get exposure to new schools on a regular basis just by watching their football team. For instance, although a lifelong resident of Texas, I had no idea that UAB had an outstanding medical school and business school until I watched them take the field and give me an opportunity to learn about who they are. UAB is an outstanding school with a rich history and deserves to be treated as such, not just as a satellite offshoot of the Tuscaloosa campus. To take away the football program, especially now that the Blazers have moved to a new conference, hired an outstanding coach, and became bowl eligible is not only a disservice to the athletic program, but a disservice to UAB, the UA system, and the State of Alabama.

My granddaughter is a third year cheerleader for UAB..We drive about 2 and a half hours just to see the football team play. They are a great team and have really played well this year they have no where to go but up. So pleas continue UAB football. So many kids need the finanial help that the scholarships provide. I know my granddaughter loves to cheer and loves to cheer for UAB.
