The decision of the Alabama BOT has ramifications far beyond simply dropping the football program. This decision would eliminate 80 scholarships for women athletes, cause UAB to be dropped from C-USA and have to be incorporated into a lower conference, and get rid of the UAB Marching Band. The athlete scholarships are hugely important, as is the marching band; many students get scholarships for their participation and it's an amazing leadership opportunity. The negative repercussions are far more extensive than the less-than-insignificant risk of competition for UAT football from UAB.

I am a potential at UAB and wish to be a part of the University of Birmingham's athletic department as a cheerleader. My dream and goal is to cheer in college but I will not be able to do such if UAB football is taken away. I hope to keep up the UAB football program as on oppurtinity to the people who wish to attend a college as magnificent as UAB and be able to take part in the sport they love.

If we lose the football program at UAB it will only be a domino to so many other programs that are adjacent to the football program, music, marketing, publishing. So many students will be affected by this decision. UAB is not just a college for students in the medical field. Students have an opportunity to learn, grow and mature into responsible adults with an education and careers because of the opportunity to be a part of the football program and the avenues that connect to it and to be connected to a school that prides itself as a school of higher learning.
