Well I got so excited that I wrote this as a comment under my signature, however I meant for it to appear here. Forgive me for repeating myself...
I played football for UAB from 1997 to 2000 and continued as a Student Athletic Trainer from 2001-2004. My time at UAB has shaped me and the experiences will continue to guide me in life. I attended orientation with a young man who was very excited to be attending UAB on an athletic scholarship. He was so full of excitement because his family didn't have the money to pay for college. His excitement was short lived. He ran track, and UAB dropped the Men's Track and Field team shortly after his arrival. I saw first hand how devastating it is for a young man to have his chances for a college degree stolen from him. The effects of killing a program like UAB Football will rip through the lives of these young men and the lives of Student Athletes playing other sports. The ripples from that devastating blow will reach out into the community as well! These effects aren't difficult to see, so what reason could outweigh the value of the education of these young men?

I don't have a dog in the fight, and i see how wrong this is. UA sholdn't have the power to do anything with UAB's programs. UAB should be allowed to keep footbal and either be represented at the BOT or have a separate BOT. This is unamerican.

This is a very important part of college life and leads to financial support of the university. Get smart guys and support this valuable program!

I am a die hard Alabama fan, however UAB needs to keep their football program. There are too many young people that will be affected by this. I am in the US Army and proud of the State of Alabama. This is not something to be proud of. If the BOT is that upset, then allow UAB to go out on its own and support itself.

I was there when UAB's program was "Club Football" and we played Samford. As a former Golden Girl & Student Recruiter, I know that the impact of UAB's football program extends much farther than just a football game. Think about how the Birmingham Barons baseball organization has THRIVED over the past 2 years. All because of an investment in our city. It's about MORE than baseball. It's about our COMMUNITY. And how much more UAB could have a positive impact if the program remains and the university and/or foundation invests an appropriate facility on/adjacent to campus. WE GREATLY MISS THE VISION AND LEADERSHIP OF GINNY GAULD, SCOTTY MCCALLUM AND GENE BARTOW.
dont shut down this program
